Project Cambriate’s Beginner Bird Banding Workshop is a two-day, professional training designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of bird banding, mist-netting, extraction, and safe bird handling.

The workshop will combine early-morning field sessions with classroom instruction to give participants both the foundational knowledge and supervised experience needed to begin developing bird banding skills.

During the workshop, participants will learn about:

  • Mist-net setup, operation, and safety

  • Safe bird extraction techniques

  • Proper handling and banding techniques

  • Basic measurements and data collection

  • Introduction to determining sex, age, and molt

  • Bird and participant safety throughout the banding process

Field sessions will be conducted in small groups with experienced handlers. Participants will rotate between instructors to gain exposure to different techniques and learning experiences.

Itinerary is subject to change as workshop details are finalized. All attendees will receive updated logistics before the start of the workshop.
