Workshop Overview
Cambriate’s Swainson’s Hawk Workshop provides participants with demonstrated training in surveying, monitoring, trapping, handling, and conservation protocols for Swainson's Hawks.
Designed for biologists, environmental consultants, agency professionals, and early-career wildlife specialists, this two-day workshop combines classroom instruction with immersive field-based learning led by experienced permitted biologists and industry professionals.
Day 1 focuses on:
Swainson’s Hawk natural history and conservation
Survey methodologies and field protocols
Regulatory compliance and permitting considerations
Field preparation and applied survey techniques
Day 2 transitions into field operations, where participants will observe and take part in demonstrations related to:
Trapping and handling techniques
Banding procedures
Behavioral observations and data collection
Real-world survey implementation
Throughout the workshop, attendees will gain practical, resume-building field experience while networking with professionals actively working in wildlife conservation and environmental compliance.

Lodging & Workshop Location Information
The Day 1 lecture sessions and evening meet-and-greet portion of the workshop will take place at the Oxnard Inn & Suites Lancaster. Attendees are welcome to book overnight accommodations at the hotel for the duration of the workshop.
An additional nearby lodging option is available at SpringHill Suites by Marriott Lancaster Palmdale, located approximately 0.4 miles away (about a 9-minute walk from the Oxford Inn).
Participants will receive additional workshop logistics and arrival information prior to the event.

Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is designed for biologists, environmental consultants, agency staff, students, and anyone looking to gain hands-on experience with the Swainson’s Hawk.
Do I need prior experience?
No prior experience is required, but a basic understanding of fieldwork and biological concepts is helpful.
Is there a registration deadline?
Registration and regular payment deadline is June 10th. Late Registration and late registration rates deadline is June 17th. We recommend signing up early, as space is limited. If the workshop is filled but you would like to be put on a waitlist, please contact scalderon@cambriate.com
Is there a waitlist for workshops that fill up?
Yes, if a date is filled, please email scalderon@cambriate.com to express your interest in being added to the waitlist. If spots open up, the first person on the waitlist will have 48 hours to accept the registration, up to four days before the event; after that, participants will have 24 hours.
